- Stock already trending up
Why now
Charles River Labs laid out new 2030 targets at its Sept. 24 investor day: 5-7% organic revenue growth from 2027-2030, ~24% non-GAAP operating margin, and low-double-digit non-GAAP EPS growth. Management also said 2026 revenue and non-GAAP EPS should land at the upper end of its existing guidance. Shares responded with about a 6% move, and several analysts have raised price targets since -- TD Cowen to $325 and Mizuho to $295 among the most recently dated moves, with Evercore, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, RBC and Baird all now sitting in the $300-330 range.
The case
- A materially stronger long-term profile, laid out by management itself. Faster organic growth, margin expansion, and more than $300 million of targeted cumulative savings from 2027-2030 -- plus four straight quarters of earnings beats backing up the credibility of the numbers.
- The trend already agrees. CRL sits above both its 50- and 200-day averages -- this isn't a name that needed a catalyst to start moving, the catalyst just added fuel to a trend already in place.
🚨 Risk: these are 2030 targets, not guidance -- management itself says they're subject to significant uncertainties and depend on continued biopharma demand. Mizuho's own rating on the stock, even after raising its target to $295, is still just Neutral -- a reminder that "raised the target" isn't the same as "everyone thinks it's cheap here."
